Hi, I’m Phillip

Here’s my story

I began to embrace my love for cooking since as far as I can remember. Growing up with a strong cultural background, food connected us as a community more than anything. While my mother and grandmother were in the kitchen cooking for hours, effortlessly dancing around pots and pans, I sat there, watching them, registering their every move. I bombarded them with questions and they were always happy to explain in so much detail. With every passing day, my curiosity and love for cooking grew stronger and stronger, thanks to these two amazing women in my life.
When I was 13, my grandmother passed away. All of a sudden our kitchen felt empty without her in it throwing together a bunch of ingredients and spices in a boiling pot. But she did leave behind a notebook. It was her book of recipes, which both my mother and I still reference to this day. These were all the recipes I grew up eating. It is worth mentioning that all these recipes were pretty heavy on carbs, which is why I was overweight for most of my life growing up. I even volunteered to be an altar boy at our church just so I could cut the holy bread. I loved it!
My mother was very proactive with trying to help me lose weight as a child. She took me to 3 different nutritional therapists. Every time they would give me an extremely strict diet, cut out many foods that I enjoyed, and I never felt good because the diets I was asked to follow put me through such a high calorie deficit that I never actually felt good and it was never sustainable, and it never worked.
At 22, I moved into my own college dorm. I was cooking every meal for myself and everything always tasted so good! Cooking in my tiny compact kitchenette was challenging and pushed me to grow my skills. But I still wasn’t health conscious and was still overweight.
Fast forward 9 years, I moved to New York, arriving 3 weeks before the 2020 lockdown (yup, I hate thinking about that too). Like many men out there, I began to go through an immense change; and let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. I knew I had two choices: either become a couch potato, accumulate bad habits, and watch my health deteriorate, or, take matters into my own hands. I decided I was going to cook every single meal I wanted to eat, especially since I had also set a goal to begin losing weight.
It took me a while to figure it out, but endless time was all we had then. I was exercising daily and cooking every single meal I ate, even when my roommates ordered the most appetizing food you could think of (after all, we were living in the city with the best restaurants). I was able to resist temptation because I knew that was my only way out, and that it was going to pay off. Every meal I cooked was packed with colorful ingredients, mouth-watering aromas, and amazing taste; and was always healthy! After 5 months of hard work, dedication and determination, I lost 45 pounds and became the healthiest I had ever been.
Throughout my transformation, my roommates started ordering takeout less and began eating more of my home cooked meals. Any time I went to a friend’s apartment, I was the one who would end up in the kitchen, gladly taking on all the cooking responsibilities. Then, like a chain reaction, their friends who had also eaten my meals began reaching out to me to ask when I was going to cook for them again. With all restaurants shut down during that time period, my friends started hosting dates at their apartments. The issue was that they had to know how to cook a meal to impress, and many of them didn’t know how and came to me for advice. That was where I had my aha moment: I can extend all the cooking knowledge I have to men who are interested in eating healthy and impressing their dates, doing both men and women a favor!

Now, I share my cooking knowledge with my clients through a personalized one-on-one 10-week coaching program.

How it works:

Through this program, I will help you to develop the habit of easily cooking healthy meals for yourself, others, and your date. We will start with assessing your baseline skills and uncovering your unique cooking preferences and skillset.

Along the way, we will be introducing new cooking techniques and recipes that will help build your confidence in the kitchen.

My mission is to nurture your kitchen confidence, ensuring you feel great, and craft the perfect date-night with meals that not only taste amazing but also leave you feeling fantastic.

The common thread that ties these skills together is an adherence to healthy eating. I want you to ultimately feel good, look good, be confident in the kitchen, and put together the perfect date-night.
